Kyle Chandler Brings in a Rather Older Green Lantern and Here’s Why It Makes Sense

When James Gunn took over DC, he gave us a game plan or an outline of how he would create a well-modeled DC universe. Among the projects he talked about in his announcement, one was Lanterns. This would be a series that revolves around Green Lanterns and after 2011, for the very first time will bring elements from the world of Green Lanterns to life. However, according to a report by THR, Kyle Chandler is up for playing the role of Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern in this upcoming series. However, you may wonder “Why not pick someone much younger to play the character?” DC and HBO have their reasons for it and here’s why a much older Green Lantern makes more sense.

It Fits the Context of the Lanterns Series

Lanterns series is set to start filming in January 2025 and is slated to finish by June. Now, according to the descriptions we have available to us, this series will bring us John Stewart, the first Black Green Lantern in DC. We will see an amateur version of him and he will be mentored by none other than Hal Jordan. In DC comics, John Stuart is one of the youngest Green Lanterns on Earth. The first one was Hal Jordan, then came Guy Gardner, and after that, John Stuart took up the mantle of Green Lantern. So, bringing in a relatively older Hal Jordan than what we have seen previously makes complete sense.

The series will bring us a story where Hal Jordan will be mentoring John Stuart in the ways of a Green Lantern while they attempt to solve a murder mystery that is connected to a bigger plot line. This series will also feature the Yellow Lanterns, bringing them to the screen for the very first time.

Guy Gardner’s Appearance in Superman Also Factors in Hal Jordan Being Rather Older

One of the biggest movies slated for 2025 is Superman. This movie is going to start a new era of DC movies putting James Gunn’s DCU universe into action. However, Superman is not just going to bring us David Corenswet’s adaptation of The Son of Krypton but also bring in other heroes like Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and Guy Gardner.

For those who don’t know, Guy Gardner was the second person on Earth to become a Green Lantern and was also younger than Hal Jordan. Guy Gardner was just 21 years old when he was chosen to replace Hal Jordan when he left to look after another sector in space. So, it makes sense to bring in Hal Jordan who is slightly older. It was confirmed by James Gunn himself that Hal Jordan is going to be a part of the DCU so after this series, there is a chance we might get to see him on one of the other live-action projects in the DCU.

Kyle Chandler has appeared in multiple movies and TV Shows and has won an Emmy for Friday Night Lights where he played the role of Coach Eric Taylor. He was once again nominated for two Emmys for Bloodline, a thriller show released on Netflix. He has also made appearances in movies like Godzilla Vs. Kong and Godzilla: King of Monsters. So, there is no doubt that he is a phenomenal actor and will do justice to a character beloved by many.
